What’s My Biggest Regret

When asked that question I had to look within and look deep enough to see the truth. The truth can be scary sometimes. I try my best not to lie to myself.

My biggest regret is not knowing God very well for most of my life and not involving Him in the small decisions or big decisions of my life.

It’s hard to admit when you caused a life consequence in your life because you chose not to know God better or simply because you never asked Him what to do.

I know God is full of forgiveness and second chances, but that doesn’t mean that He won’t allow you to face the consequences of your choices.

I knew about God. I was introduced to God by my parents, grandparents, and school. I started off believing He died on the cross for me and prayed to Him at night because I often was scared to sleep alone as a child. I felt His warmth as a child.

As I went through life I considered myself a Christian because I believed He died on the cross for me. I knew some Bible stories, felt emotions in my heart at church, sang some gospel songs in the car when my mom played it, I remember someone prophesied over me at church, I knew some commandments, and I thought I was a decent person.

I was missing a transformation relationship with God. I had moments in life when I went through the right motions, but still there was a disconnect. I was comfortable with making life decisions and it didn’t even cross my mind to ask God what He wanted me to do. I missed so much intimacy with Him.

Just to be clear, I do believe God was still exposing some details I was missing, but I didn’t pay it too much attention. I thought I was handling some hard truths about people in my life the right way, but I only consulted myself. Sometimes we can want what we want so badly or be so out of touch with God that we fool ourselves into believing we are making the right decisions.

Sometimes what seems so right can be so wrong!

It’s the heart that’s truly surrendered and desires with intention to come under His authority, not because you have to or because it’s the right thing to do – it’s because you want to.

Wanting God in your life, wanting to spend with Him, following His commandments, and wanting to know His plan for you is the right direction. Going through the motions or simply making your own decisions without including God is a huge mistake. At some point in life you will want to know what direction you’re supposed to go in, and my friend – the right direction for your life can only be given to you by God.

Don’t miss out on a relationship with God – He allows you to make that choice.

Don’t miss out on including God in your life – He allows you to make that choice.

Activity:

With the decisions you can make – Why do you think God gives you the freedom to make decisions?

What little and big decisions are you facing right now? (Write them down)

Have you asked God what He wants you to do?

Is your want or desire so much (like you already decided) and you can’t hear God because you are already telling yourself what you want?

Can you handle God telling you “no” or exposing some facts that you didn’t see (even if it’s not what you wanted to know?

I would encourage you to invite God into your decisions. Ask Him what His plan is. Ask Him to help you to make the decisions He wants you to make.

Prayer Challenge:

Father God, I ask You to forgive me of any sins in my life. I ask You to cover me with Your blood and help me to live a repented life. I pray You guide me to have an open mind and heart, that I will hear You when You speak to me or as You confirm Your answers and direction over my life. Help me to be patient and to wait on Your answers with hope and trust that You will answer me and show me the way. I want to please You and be obedient to You. Close the doors and opportunities You don’t want for me or help me to see the truth in the situation so I can make a good decision, not just for the here and now, but for my future – under Your authority and through Your Holy Spirit. Help me see what my eyes don’t see, and hear what my ears don’t hear. Please give me every opportunity to follow in the direction You are leading me in. In Your Name Yeshua. Amen.
