When You Don’t Hear Him

Like the wind, just because you can’t see God it doesn’t mean He is not there.

Today was an interesting day for me. Nothing was going right! Have you ever had one of those days? Maybe you woke up to no electricity, car problems, fashion issues, bad hair days, poor internet connection, losing your homework, forgetting your book at home, your best friend is not speaking to you, drama at home, drama at work, drama at school, it’s raining, it’s snowing, your running late, and the list goes on. It was one of those days for me. When I reached out to God all I heard was trust Him, give thanks, praise Him with music. So that’s what I did. Did it change anything? Nope. It didn’t change my situation, but it brought me peace and opened the door for me to talk with Jesus.

Sisters, we are called to praise Him, keep believing, and to trust Him – Even when it hurts, even when we don’t hear Him, and even when we don’t get what we want when we want it. He never said this walk would be easy!

We have to keep trusting Him, He is still in control. He is not TikTok! He is not a drive through – your way, right away! He is the Almighty, the beginning and the end, the King over all, the creator of the universe, and He is Holy.

Hebrews 13:8 NASB Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, and forever.

Please be reassured to know, no matter what we are going through He is still the same, He is still faithful. It’s important to still keep walking your faith out, even when you don’t hear Him.

Hebrews 11:1 NASB Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen.

Consider the patience of God to deal with us! Sometimes He is testing us to see if we trust Him or how patient we will be. Sometimes He is strengthening our faith to keep believing even when we don’t see or hear Him. If you have given your whole life to Him, then He is your Father and He said He would never leave us.

Think about when you were little and your parents left you with a babysitter. If you can remember that far back, you probably didn’t like the first separations from your parents. However, when they returned you were reassured. God is even closer to us than that because He didn’t go away, He is still there – Even when we can’t hear Him!

Have you heard of Joseph in the Bible?

Below is a brief snapshot, but I think you should read Genesis, chapters 37 – 42, to get the full understanding.

Genesis 37 NASB (Joseph’s brothers sold him as a slave – He became a slave in Egypt.)

3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his other sons, 4 And his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers; and so they hated him…

10…“What is this dream that you have had? Am I and your mother and your brothers actually going to come to bow down to the ground before you?

19…“Here comes this dreamer! 20 Now then, come and let’s kill him, and throw him into one of the pits;

28…“so they pulled him out and lifted Joseph out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. So they brought Joseph into Egypt.

Genesis 39 NASB (God still was there)

3 Now his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all that he did prosper in his hand. 4 So Joseph found favor in his sight and became his personal servant; and he made him overseer over his house, and put him in charge of all that he owned.

In the remaining story Genesis 39 – 41 (Paraphrasing) *Joseph was still faithful to God, God used His gift of dream interpretation at the right time.

Joseph’s master’s wife tried to sleep with Joseph, he refused, but she lied about it; therefore Joseph was confined in prison.

Pharaoh put his two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker, in the prison. They both had a dream Joseph could interpret. Pharaoh eventually resorted the chief cupbearer to his office, but Joseph remained in prison.

At the end of two full years Pharaoh had a dream and he called for Joseph to interpret the dream; which revealed 7 years of plenty and 7 years of famine. God provided the interpretation to Joseph and this allowed Joseph to store food to prepare for the famine.

Genesis 42 NASB (Joseph became a ruler in the land of Egypt.)

6 Now Joseph was the ruler over the land; he was the one who sold grain to all the people of the land. And Joseph’s brothers came and bowed down to him with their faces to the ground.

After all those years his brothers went down to Egypt to get food because they were experiencing a famine. Joseph fed them, met his father again, and his brothers reconciled with him. His brothers prostrated themselves in front of Joseph. The dream finally happened. The dream was about preserving the 12 tribes of Israel with food. God used Egypt as a source.

Of course God could have made things easier for Joseph, but I wonder if God knew Joseph’s journey would help us to believe in God even when we do not hear Him or when things seem dim. God allowed Joseph to know He was with Him by blessing Him more than once in Egypt – Pharaoh took notice to this. However, I can only imagine how Joseph may have felt when he was sold as a slave and spent considerable years in Egypt and in prison. He did not see the dream God gave him come to pass until years later.

Despite all the ups and downs Joseph went through I do not see him abandoning his faith. I especially love how God was in the background of Joseph’s life orchestrating a perfect plan. We may not always understand what’s going on in our lives, but God does have a plan.

Hold on to your faith ladies! Just like Joseph, see what God is doing in your life, try not to focus on what He is not doing, and remember He said He would never leave us or forsake us.

Answer The Questions:

Can you still praise Him and trust Him even if you don’t hear Him?

Have you ever been in a situation in which you didn’t feel like praising or worshiping God? When another storm comes can you do things differently?

No matter what you have gone through, no matter what you’re going through now, no matter how bad your pain is, no matter how weary you are, no matter what your needs are, and no matter how impatient you’ve become, still praise Him and thank Him. Right now lift up your hands and tell Him thank you out-loud for all the things He is doing in your life. Thank Him for all the things He has done in your life.
